Just 30 miles South of Austin in Caldwell County, Martindale is a charming turn-of-the 20th Century town founded on the banks of the beautiful San Marcos River. Once the "Cottonseed Capital of the World," Martindale shipped more cottonseed than any other place on earth. The town was home to three general stores, a bank, several blacksmith shops, and a variety of other small, home-grown businesses. Today, the downtown, much of it lovingly restored to its original glory, is again open for business!
